Everything is bigger in Texas—even the local college scene. The state is home to some of the biggest public universities in the US, like Texas A&M and the University of Texas at Austin. It’s also home to smaller private colleges, like Rice University and Southern Methodist University.

Back in 2019, Texas colleges welcomed 1.58 million undergraduate students. But not all students paid the same amount for college tuition—even those who attended the same school. That’s because Texas has specialized college grants that help-state students pay for higher education.

Thinking of heading to the Lone Star State for your undergraduate degree? Keep reading for a spotlight on top Texas colleges, which cover direct and indirect costs, along with financial aid averages.
